ICDS - The Integrated Child Development Services Programme is one of the World’s most unique Community Based outreach programmes for early childhood and development. 

Pattern - A Centrally Sponsored Scheme, wherein the Government of India is responsible for programme planning and Operating costs and the State Government is responsible for programme implementation and supplementary nutrition.

Objectives 

• To lay the foundation for the proper psychological, physical and social development of the child.
• To improve the Nutritional and Health Status of children below the age of six years.
• To reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropouts.
• To achieve effective coordination of policy and implementation among various departments to promote child development.
• To enhance the Capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child, through proper health and nutrition education.

• Additional Child Development Project Officers (ACDPOs) are also a part of the team in larger rural and tribal projects.

• Primary Health Centres and sub-centres form a team with social welfare/ ICDS functionaries to implement the ICDS Programme.
• AWW is a community based frontline worker and a backbone of the ICDS programme.

  Adolescent Girl’s Scheme – Kishori Shakti Yojana

The Adolescent Girl’s Scheme is being implemented through Anganwadi Centres in the 23 (twenty three) ICDS Projects in the State. The objective of the scheme is to increase self-confidence, boost moral and give dignity. The adolescent girls scheme (KSY) has been designed to include 2 sub-schemes viz. Scheme I (Girl to Girl Approach) and Scheme II (Balika Mandal). photograph file

Pre School Education Kits

Recognising the two-fold significance of early childhood education – its direct influence on development of the child through early stimulation and its potential contribution to the goal of Universal Elementary Education, the Government of India provide pre-school kits in all the Anganwadi Centres photograph file

Medicine Kits

As a vital input to provide the essential services of health check up and referral services each anganwadi centre is provided every year with medicine kit consisting of easy to use and dispensable medicines to remedy common ailments like cough and common cold, skin infections etcphotograph file

Construction of Anganwadi Centres

Government of India have sanctioned for construction of anganwadi centres as a special consideration for the North East. In Meghalaya, 1725 Anganwadi centres were sanctioned till date for construction.
